Music by The Piano Brothers

Brad Ernest Johns was born October 14, 1938 in Elgin, Illinois to Rueben F. and H. Louise (Peterson) Johns and was their only child. Brad’s father passed away when he was only five years old so his grandparents, Edward F. and Bertha (Foelschow) Johns, played an important role in helping Louise raise Brad. Brad grew up in Aurora, Illinois and attended West Senior High School where he began running track, which led to a long enjoyment of jogging. After graduating high school in 1956, Brad first attended Northern Illinois State College before transferring to Colorado State University where he met and dated the love of his life, Joann. Brad graduated in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science. On December 29, 1962 Brad married Joann K. Reeves in Lansing, Illinois and they began their 56-year adventure together.

Brad served as a Specialist E-4 in the US Army at Walter Reed Medical Center from 1962-1964 and during his service received the Good Conduct Medal and the Expert badge for the M-1 rifle. Brad and Joann moved to Colorado in 1964, where Brad was employed with the US Department of Agriculture at the Denver Federal Center as a Physiologist. While his family often joked that they did not know what he really did each day at work, Brad daily donned his lab coat and did vertebrate pest control research for over 35 years. His work took him to many other states, overseas to Africa, and included a role in reintroducing the wolf population to Colorado. In the summer of 1971 Brad and Joann found their small dream home in the mountains of Bailey where they could raise their family in the nature they so greatly enjoyed. For 34 years Brad commuted an hour to and from work each day, indulging in one of his favorite activities – driving. Brad was always tinkering with his vehicles and with just about anything he could get his hands on. He greatly enjoyed reading, photography, learning new things, hunting with family and friends, watching his kids and grandchildren play sports, and snacking, especially on popcorn.

Brad, who trusted in and claimed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, could be found in the morning studying God’s word and he lived according to 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 by leading a quiet life, working hard with his hands and living in such a way to gain the respect of others. Brad attended and served on the board of Pine Community Church for decades. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and is greatly missed.

Brad moved on to his eternal home with Jesus on the afternoon of July 13, 2018. Brad is survived by his wife, Joann; his four children: Ann (Ron) Bouchard of Lambert, Montana, Peter (Jami) Johns of Bailey, Colorado, Daniel (Christi) Johns of Oroville, California, and Matt (Andrea) Johns of Divide, Colorado; and his six grandchildren: Caleb, Zachary, April, Alyssa, Avery and Kenzie. Brad is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 10:00am at Pine Community Church, 16795 County Road 126, Pine, Colorado 80470. A family graveside service will follow the funeral service at Horn Cemetery, Bailey, Colorado 80421.
