Donald Dean Fabian Passed away Friday, May 11th at University Hospital in Aurora.  Donald was a lifetime resident of Leadville.  

Donald is survived by his wife Judy (Poderzay) Fabian, whom he married on August 12, 1972; brother Fred (Agnes) Fabian (Leadville); Aunt, Johanna Schaefer (Leadville); Uncle, Max Kasten (Platteville); Sister-in-law, Marie Moore (Grand Junction); brother-in-law, Stan Thielke (Denver) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald is preceded in death by his Parents, Freida Agnes Fabian, and Anton ‘Tony’ William Fabian; and Uncle, Rudolph ‘Buck’ Fabian.

Donald was a 1966 graduate of Lake County High School and attended Colorado State University in Pueblo.

Donald served in the Army during the Vietnam War in the 36th Engineering Group, and earned the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Donald is a retired Leadville Fire Department Chief. He worked for the Summit County School District, St Vincent Hospital, Owen Grant and ASARCO, the Leadville Post Office and Alpine Monument.

Donald was a member of St Joseph’s Church, a Lifetime member of the Fraternal order of the Elks and a member of the VFW.

Donald’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling and cooking.

Donald lost his legs in 2009 and spent 9 months is Briarwood Rehabilitation Center.  Following his stay, Life Care Center in Tennessee reached out and he made a training video with them for their work with amputees.

Rosary services will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 10:30 am and Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church. Inurnment will be at a later date. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge #236 on West 5th Street.  

Pallbearers:   Stanley Thielke, Christopher Thielke, Shawn Thielke, Andrew Medina, Michael LaCome, Steve Rogers, Orlando Martinez.

Honorary Pallbearers:  Linda Stapleton, and Therapists:  Destiny Luna, Julianne Koblitz, Sara Smith, Alexis Gaines, Megan Bottinelli.
