Filemon L. “Tito” Fresquez, 83, of Salida, Colorado, passed away on August 30, 2017 in Salida. He was born on September 13, 1933 in Llano, New Mexico to Filemon and Amadita Gonzales Fresquez. He married Dolores C. (Martinez) Fresquez on December 13, 1958 in Leadville, Colorado.

Filemon served in the United States Army from 1955-1957 where he was awarded the good conduct medal and then in the United States Army Reserve from 1957-1961. He worked on the westbound Eisenhower Tunnel, the Homestake Dam and the Leadville Intermediate School.   He was a dayminer and worked at the Gilman Mine, the Black Cloud Mine and later retired from ASARCO. Filemon belonged to the Old Moose Lodge in Leadville and the Labor Union Local 720 since 1963. He was an avid fisherman, loved trips to Cripple Creek and enjoyed watching old westerns on TV.

Filemon is survived by his son Ron (Lynette) Fresquez of Leadville; daughters  Debi (Jon) Turner of Sailda and Aimee (Tony) Romero of Denver; grandchildren Mark Fresquez and Becky Day of Pueblo, Zachary Fresquez and Haley Fresquez of Leadville, Brandon Fresquez Romero of Brush and Janelle Fresquez Romero of Denver; great grandchildren Mason Fresquez of Pueblo and Genesis Fresquez-Romero of Sterling; brothers Jake (Joan) Fresquez of Raton, New Mexico, Alfred (Pam) Fresquez of Alamosa; sisters Della (Lawrence) Alejandro of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Gladys (Hilario) Martinez of Raton, New Mexico, Myra Fresquez of Guymon, Oklahoma, Eileen (Robert) Gonzales of Raton, and Evelyn Fresquez as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his grandfather Eliseo Gonzales, brother Frank Gonzales and sister Cheryl Rendon.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at the Cornerstone Church in Leadville. Inurnment will follow the Celebration of Life at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Leadville, with a reception to follow at Leadville Elk’s Lodge, #236 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 p.m.

So sorry to hear of Filemon passing. He and I both worked in the UG. Crusher at the Black Cloud. Also living just down the street from me on third street. He was an all around great guy.
