Herson E. Medina, 69, died February 8, 2016 at his home in Leadville, Colorado. He was born March 30, 1946, to Joe and Peggy Medina in Gilman, Colorado. He was raised in Llano De La Yegua, New Mexico by his mom Socorrito and sister Belinda Medina until the age of 21. In 1967 he visited Red Cliff, Colorado and met the love of his life.
He married Emily Velasquez on November 27, 1967. Together they returned to Llano Largo to start their family. While in New Mexico, Herson did his best to provide for his family by working at Pot Creek and a local steel mill. Chopping wood and boiling snow to cook, clean, and bathe were just a few chores of their everyday routine. Although times were hard, Herson and his family never complained of everyday living. As much as he loved New Mexico, in 1990 he packed up his station wagon and brought his family back to Leadville. At that time, Herson and Emily started a 20 year career at the Marriott in Vail Colorado. He took such pride in everything he did, his job was no exception. He was named employee of the month several times throughout his career there.
Nothing gave him more joy than listening , singing and dancing to Spanish music while drinking his beer but most of all he loved his family and spending time with friends.
He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville, Colorado. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge of Leadville where he would enjoy his time socializing with friends.
He is survived by his wife Emily Medina, son Lee (Heidi) Medina, daughter Annette (Ricky) Casados, son Leonard (Rosario) Medina, son Andrew (Annette) Medina, son Jonas (Susana) Medina, and the son he raised Julian Medina all of Leadville, nine grandchildren; Nathaniel Casados, Sylvia Romero, Angelica Medina, Jacob Medina, Camila Medina, Selena Medina, Damian Medina, Adrian Medina and Kimberly Medina.
He is also survived by his mother Peggy Medina, brother Sammy (Dolores) Gallegos of Penasco, New Mexico, sister Belinda Medina of Taos, New Mexico, brother Gilbert (Bertha) Medina, brother Joe (Julia) Medina of Espanola, New Mexico, sister Nancy Medina of Leadville, sister Stella (Paul) Salas of Leadville, sister Josie (Tony) Marquez of Leadville, various nieces and nephews and Alberta Romero of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who was very dear to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his mom Socorrito Matinez, father Joe Medina, brother Robert Medina, sister Loyola Gallegos, Pasquala Sanchez, and beloved in-laws Canuto and Sarah Velasquez.
He will be remembered and loved forever.

My deepest sympathies. Hersen was a nice man. I remember my parents keeping cans of beer at the Reno because he wouldn't drink a bottle. May he rest in peace.
