Jose “Ray” Ramon Pacheco, 60, of Leadville, passed away comfortably at University of Colorado Hospital in Denver after a 15-month battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and two of his children.

Ray was born October 2, 1958 in Lark, Utah to the late Jose and Adelina Pacheco. Ray was in a long-time relationship with Sylvia Avila, and they had two children, Stephanie and Joseph. He later married his long-time partner, Gloria, on April 8, 2016; they remained together until his death, over 20 years.

Ray’s first love was the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and boating. On his days off, you could often find him at a fishing hole, many of his “spots” were kept a secret. He also loved to archery hunt. Over the years, his two-favorite fishing/hunting buddies were his good friends Buddy and Gary. Occasionally, his kids and son-and-law, Nelson, made good buddies, too.

Ray was a very hard worker and owned a drywall business for his entire adult life. He took pride in working hard and providing for his family. When Ray wasn’t outside or at work, he could be found watching the Broncos, The Walking Dead, or Gunsmoke. His greatest joys were his granddaughters, Anaya and Rebekah. They could brighten up any day, and he loved when they would visit. Ray was a man that believed in God his whole life, and he gave his life to Christ just two weeks before his death. This is something that gave him great joy and comfort. Besides his love of the outdoors, his love of his family and Christ and his work ethic, many will remember Ray’s generosity. He was always willing to help anyone he could, financially or otherwise.

Ray is survived by his wife, Gloria Gonzales; ex-wife, Sylvia Avila; children Stephanie (Nelson) McBride, Joseph Pacheco and Willie Pacheco; step-children, Jeanette (Johnny) Gaines and Franki (Francisco) Luevanos; godchildren Trinity Pacheco and Matthew (Sharon) Lopez; grandchildren: Jonathon, Isaac and Brandon Gaines; Anaya and Rebekah McBride; Diego and Antonio Luevanos; siblings Robert (Mickie) Pacheco, Ruben (Susanne) Pacheco, Randy Pacheco, Deelila Lopez; very special cousins Gary and Lonnie Cruz and Stephen Martinez; very important friends Thomas “Buddy” White, Robert and Rosalie Espinoza, and Faye Rodriguez; nieces and nephews: Robert Pacheco, Katrina (Gustano) Thede, Gabriel Long, Gracie Jimenez, Ashley (Marlon) Reid, Marie Valenzuela, Joselena Hernandez, Alejandra Hernandez, Miya Madrill, Lily Pacheco, Adarrah Neal, Vannah Neal, and Maxine (Nathan) Radocy; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ray is preceded in death by his mother and father and brothers Robert and Anthony Pacheco.

The family will have a small, private service, as he wished.
